Front-runners face upwind battle home

10:00: After battling into a fresh nor-easterly breeze all night in a tough slog to Cabbage Tree Island, our front-running competitors are now faced with a southerly change on the nose for their homeward leg. The super-maxis were able to gain the most ground south before the change came through, with Comanche and Wild Oats XI powering past the central coast. The bulk of the fleet, however will enjoy the change as it propels them to the turning point of the race, before rounding the island for home.

Updates:

  • No competitors finished, Comanche currently in front for Line Honours with Wild Oats XI 13 nautical miles behind
  • With plenty of race to run, Mark Gorbatov's Beneteau First 40 Blink commands IRC, ORCi and PHS handicaps
  • Twelve yachts have rounded Cabbage Tree Island with 19 still to pass the turning point
  • Six competitors have retired - more on this to come
