RACE UPDATE | 1430hrs Saturday 21 September

An exciting race is unfolding with a third of the fleet already on the home stretch

It has been a fast and furious trip down to Flinders Islet with a third of the teams already on the home stretch back to the finish line. With winds increasing from 10 knots at the start to 25 knots now, it has made for some exciting rides as crews beat back into the building breeze.

On safety watch, Enigma has slowed their progress during the race to stand by an overturned catamaran whilst they wait for Marine Rescue to reach the yacht and assist in the recovery. Once they have arrived Enigma looks set to rejoin the race.

The race has had some retirements, they are as follows with all crew members safe:

  • Koa has sustained sail and hatch damage and is heading to Port Kembla
  • Blink has been dismasted with all crew on board safe. The team are heading back to Sydney Harbour
  • Snowdome Occasional Course Language Too has sustained rudder damage and is heading to Wollongong

Flinders Islet Race teams can be followed live via the yacht tracker on this dedicated Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore Series website. Photo and video will also be shared across the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s socials including FacebookInstagram and Twitter – you can keep up with the conversation by using and following #AudiCentreSydneyBWPS.
